Why style matters
Carpet style describes how the yarn is constructed and finished. It changes how dirt settles, how quickly the carpet dries and how a technician should agitate or groom it. Fiber — what the yarn is made of — adds another layer. Together they explain why one family's carpet cleans up easily and another's takes extra care.
Common carpet styles

Loop carpet and wicking
Loop and berber carpets often have dense, low profiles. Spills can travel along the backing and resurface as the carpet dries — called wicking. Thorough extraction and controlled moisture help prevent spots reappearing. If you've seen a spot "come back" after cleaning, this is often why.
Fiber basics
We focus on manufactured carpet and synthetic area rugs; we don't clean oriental, imported or delicate rugs.
- Nylon: durable and resilient; the most common residential fiber.
- Polyester (PET): soft and colorful; can mat in heavy traffic.
- Olefin: resists water-based stains but holds oily soil; common in berber.
- Wool: natural and premium; sensitive to heat and pH and needs specialist care.
Care tips by style
- Cut pile: vacuum in overlapping passes and change direction to lift crushed pile.
- Berber: use a vacuum setting that won't snag loops; blot spills quickly to limit wicking.
- Frieze: vacuum slowly and often — debris hides deep in the twists.
- All styles: follow the Carpet and Rug Institute's four steps for proper carpet care.
What to tell your cleaner
If you know the carpet brand, style or fiber, share it when you book. Warranty paperwork is helpful too, since some manufacturers specify cleaning methods. If you don't know, the technician will check during the walk-through.
