Cause 1: wicking
Large spills soak below the surface. During drying, moisture moves up the fibers and deposits stain at the tips.
Tip: After treatment, place a folded white towel weighted down over the spot overnight to wick moisture into the towel instead.
Cause 2: residue
Soapy residue is sticky and collects soil. The spot often looks gray and slightly larger each time. Rinse with plain water and blot until no slickness remains.
Cause 3: contaminated pad
Pet urine and large spills can saturate the pad. Surface cleaning won't reach it; the source keeps returning.
Diagnose your spot
| Clue | Likely cause |
|---|---|
