Where the smell actually is
Urine soaks through carpet backing into the padding and often reaches the subfloor. Cleaning only the surface removes the stain while leaving the source, so the odor returns on the next humid day.
What effective treatment looks like
- Locate affected areas rather than guessing.
- Flush the contaminated area, not just the visible spot.
- Apply an enzyme treatment that breaks down the odor source.
- Extract thoroughly and confirm the area is dry.
Severe cases
When an area has been soaked repeatedly, padding replacement and subfloor sealing may be the honest recommendation. We will tell you when that is the case instead of selling a treatment that will not hold.
Keeping it from happening again
- Treat accidents the same day.
- Blot, rinse with cool water, and avoid ammonia-based cleaners.
- Schedule a deeper cleaning after a training period or a new pet.
