| Situation | Urgency | Who to call |
|---|---|---|

| Sewage or toilet overflow | Urgent | Water damage restoration; don't DIY |
| Red wine, juice, dye spills | Same day | Blot now; professional spot treatment soon |
| Vomit or heavy pet accident | Same day | Clean up now; pet treatment if odor lingers |
| Event tomorrow, carpet dirty | Soon | Schedule cleaning with drying time |
| Old stains, traffic lanes | Can wait | Regular cleaning |
First minutes: spills and accidents
- 1Remove solids gently with a spoon or dull knife.
- 2Blot liquids with white towels; press, don't rub.
- 3Rinse lightly with cool water and blot again.
- 4Avoid heat and harsh chemicals.
- 5Note what was spilled for the technician.
Wet carpet is a different problem
If a leak, overflow or flood soaked carpet, drying within 24–48 hours matters to prevent mold (EPA). That's water damage restoration, not routine cleaning. See emergency water damage restoration and what to do for minor water damage.
Important: Sewage and floodwater are contaminated. Porous materials they soak generally should be removed, not cleaned.
