Holidays, parties and kids mean candy on carpet. Each type behaves differently. Here's how to handle the common ones.

| Gum | Freeze with ice in a bag, scrape off, blot residue |
| Chocolate | Let harden, scrape, blot with mild detergent, rinse |
| Hard / sticky candy | Warm water to dissolve, blot, rinse |
| Dyed candy | Blot quickly, cool water; dyes may remain |
Sugar residue is sticky and attracts soil, making spots reappear. Always finish with a plain-water rinse and blot. CRI recommends blotting rather than rubbing (CRI).
